John Lothrop and the Founders of Barnstable presented by Dan McConnell Learn about the persecution suffered by Rev John Lothrop and his congregation before the religious courts in London and their flight to Cape Cod.  Reverend John and his congregation arrived in Barnstable in 1639.  His home and meetinghouse built in 1644 still stands today as part of the building which is now Sturgis Library. Dan is President of the Cape Cod Genealogical Society and the historian for the Lothropp Family Foundation.  He has done extensive research on the English Reformation and early religious emigrants with special focus on the Rev John Lothrop in London and Barnstable.
