Swirling Currents: The Story Behind the Headlines

January 22 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Whales closer to extinction; sharks chasing seals chasing fish; turtle strandings; fisheries reeling; shellfish aquaculture expanding; the Gulf of Maine heating rapidly and the Gulf Stream slowing down– all in the context of dynamic coastal change. Sandy Macfarlane probes the stories behind the headlines in an engaging narrative of personal stories and scientific investigation. Join us for an engaging Marine Bio discussion and learn how you can be a part of the solution!

Bio: Sandy Macfarlane’s curiosity about all things marine, begun in youth, continues today. Aided by forty years of hands-on experience in resource evaluation, policy and management, and decades of recreational rowing in her 14-foot Cape Dory, she learned about the Biological and physical world around her. In the process, she also gained insight into the social, political, and economic landscape of coastal communities. Swirling Currents is her third book.
