  • Stories Behind the Markers Along 6A

    June 3rd, 2010 @ 7 pm
    Local historian Dave Crocker will present facts and stories you may not know about all the markers and monuments from West Barnstable to Yarmouthport. Held at the Sturgis Library . Co-sponsored by the Sturgis Library & the Barnstable Historical Society.

    Sturgis Library Tour

    June 5th, 2010 @ 11 am or 1 pm
    Tour the oldest library building in the United States! The original building was constructed in 1644 as a meetinghouse for the Reverend John Lothrop. Highlights include the Nehemiah Smith Desk, portraits of Captain William Sturgis and family, and the 1605 Lothrop Bible. Held at the Sturgis Library. Don't forget to check out our Friends of the Library Book, Bake, and Plant Sale from 10 am to 2 pm on June 5th!

    Open House at the Historical Society of Old Yarmouth

    June 5th, 2010 from 1 - 4 pm
    Built around 1840, The Captain Bangs Hallet House provides an intimate look at family life in the 19th century. Docents will be on hand to answer questions. Sponsored by the Historical Society of Old Yarmouth.

    Historic Inn Tours

    Sunday, June 6 from Noon to 3 pm
    The following inns will be offering tours of their historic buildings. Look for the red, white, & blue balloons to identify inns on the tour. Enter drawing for a $200 gift certificate, $5 donation per entry will benefit Yarmouth Port and Sturgis Libraries. Don't forget to ask about the special historic and haunting stay -- two night stay includes a ghost tour and haunted dinner. Contact any of the Inns for details.

    Architectural Walking Tour of Yarmouth Port

    June 9th, 2010 @ 1 pm
    (Rain date: June 10th, 2010)
    Architect Sara Porter will lead a tour along Route 6A in Yarmouth Port. She will discuss the history and architecture of the "Captains' Mile" houses.
