Vonnegut Celebration

Sturgis Library is hosting a very special weekend of programs celebrating the 50th anniversary of the publication of Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.

 The centerpiece of the celebration will be an 8-hour marathon reading of Slaughterhouse-Five, as well as several of Vonnegut’s shorter pieces, to be held on Saturday, August 3rd, 2019 from 9 am to 5 pm.

Readers will sign up to read for 5-15  minutes each throughout the day, depending on the number of participants.

 We are excited to welcome special guests Edie Vonnegut, daughter of Kurt Vonnegut; Julia Whitehead and Max Goller of the Vonnegut Museum & Library in Indianapolis, IN; Marc Leeds, author of the Vonnegut Encyclopedia: An Authorized Compendium; and Pat LaMarche, author and activist, and host of a series of interviews with Vonnegut’s friends and colleagues.

Activities throughout the weekend will include the following (unless otherwise noted, events will be held at Sturgis Library) :

The Dolphin Restaurant in Barnstable Village will be serving one of  Kurt Vonnegut’s favorite meals during Vonnegut weekend!  Stop by!  Reservations are suggested.
