The land was formerly part of the estate of Samuel Mayo Sr. (deceased) of Eastham; he gave the land to his two sons, Samuel Mayo Jr. and Jonathan Mayo, divided equally between them. Samuel Mayo Jr. died and in his last will gave his half of the land to his son Thomas Mayo.
